Images from the Avon Walk in Denver, June 24 2006

Walk for the Cure

I'm sitting at Starbucks downloading all the photos from this morning. WOW. A very powerul and moving experience. The morning started with about 800 women gathering at Washington Park in Denver for the start of the walk. There was a woman who spoke, that was diagnosed in January 2005, her words brought the crowd to tears. My job was to follow the course in my car and capture the emotional moments, costumes, sponsor and reactions of the day.

As we wound through the streets of Denver, many people had stations set up for the walkers in front of their homes.

As I watch my images downloading onto my laptop, I give thanks for all the people in my life that have been affected by this disease.

A few of the shirts I saw today
"Hoofing it for Hooters"
"Feel your Boobs"
"Boobs are Great!"

Avon Breast Cancer Walk... Denver

I'm photographing parts of the walk this weekend starting tomorrow for a few hours at 6am. I'm very excited to be a part of this year's photo crew. Breast cancer has affected several of my close friends, and family members over the years. Cancer always seems like something that you just have to expect and accept. Events like the Avon walk make me feel like I'm helping the battle, raging against this disease and supporting the millions of survivors out there and those to have yet to be diagnosed.

Photographed Ruby's 3rd birthday party at Sunflower Farms in Longmont yesterday. A great time was had by all.

Time for me

I went to Rocky Mountain National Park yesterday and spent some time fly fishing. I really enjoy fishing, and being up in the mountains is one of my most favorite places to recharge. I caught too many fish to count!

Morraine Park is one of my favorite places to spend time. It is a wide open meadow often with a herd of elk grazing on the tall grass.

The small streams that trickle through the valley contain lots of small trout. Brown and Brook trout are the most prolific. The sweeping water cuts deep banks under the edges which hold many fish.

Today I caught 3 brown trout over 13" and a beautiful brook trout that was about 15". I also played with lots of small fish, and a few "fish sticks" the ones that are so tiny that when you set the hook the fish comes flying out of the water !

I'm going to go spend time on the water with my rod and reel at least one full day per week. I feel totally renewed.

SUPERWOMAN!!

I LOVE this new suit! It really makes me feel like a real superstar. This weekend I did a few rides, and felt a HUGE difference in my performance. Of course, I'm sure a bit of it is in my mind too. It's like when you were a kid and got new tennis shoes, I believed I was always the fastest kid on the playground!
